Cruise Ship Spotlight: Norwegian Cruise Line Youth Programs

I have come to appreciate and learn to monopolize my down time, especially while on vacation. This is another reason why I love cruises. Many of the cruise lines have excellent youth programs. The kiddos get a chance to hang out with their peers and partake in really fun age-appropriate activities, while the parents get a few hours of alone time. I have always been one of those overly protective mothers. Needless to say, I was a bit annoying leaving them with the program staff on their first cruise. Yes I kept going back to check up on them. Don’t judge me. There were these TV monitors in the hallway right outside of the childcare center that allowed you to see them playing. However, after picking them up after their first visit, I was at ease because they loved it! Well at least my oldest did at the time.

In lieu of our upcoming cruise, I thought it would be fun to highlight the various cruise lines youth programs starting with Norwegian Cruise Line.

Norwegian has three core programs for children between the ages of 6 months to 17 years old.

  • The Guppies Program has an umbrella of programs for infants up to 3 years old. There is an open play and a hosted activities program that require parents to stay. However, there is a fee based drop off nursery for children up to three years old.
  • Splash Academy is where all the fun begins! This drop off program is for children between the ages of 3 -12. Children are separated in three age groups where they can enjoy creative play, sports and other hosted activities.
  • Entourage is the other program and appropriately titled. Teens between the ages of  13 -17 years old get to hangout in the party zone, game zone and dance zone while participating in challenges and activities.

On all ships, a one-time registration form needs to be completed by a parent or guardian for each child.

Little fun fact:

Norwegian Cruise Line also offers fun, family themed activities that includes scavenger hunts, a circus show, game show challenges, pizza making and movie nights.
